MITCHELLVILLE, Iowa — A Mitchellville family conned out of thousands of dollars by contractors hired to build an addition on their home is getting help to finish up the project.
The Overlins hired friends of a friend to add on to their home to make more space for the nine family members who live in the tiny home. The project wasn’t completed and the contractors took off with tools purchased to work on the home.
Now a new contractor has come forward to do the work on the home Pro bono, but the addition that was partially built will have to be torn down because of shoddy workmanship.
Authentic Services Inc. has volunteered to supervise and do the work on the addition for free. They have set up a GoFundMe page where donations can be made to pay for materials. The Overlins have also put their remaining remodeling budget into an account that is being monitored by a lawyer and the contractor, to make sure every penny goes toward work on the addition.
Volunteers are needed to help demolish the addition, so work can start over. If you would like to help, meet at 302 Mill Street in Mitchellville at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, August 2nd.
You can also contact email@example.com if you would like to volunteer to help re-build the addition.
