INDIANOLA, Iowa – More than 300 acres of prime real estate are up for sale in Warren County but the question remains what will it be used for? Auctioneers say the acreage of land along highway 65/69 near Indianola is extremely valuable.
“A good piece of land like this doesn`t come up for sale very often maybe not even in a generation does land like this come up for sale , so that`s why it’s so sought after,” says auctioneer John Probasco.
Probasco says hundreds have already shown interest in the land, even high profile developers from Des Moines. He says the area is ripe for development because of its proximity to Des Moines and its access to the highway. Probasco predicts a high bidding war for the seven sections of land. Neighboring farmer, Murray McKee guesses an acre could sell for $15,000 or more.
“I can imagine a lot of farmers around here would like to get their hands on it too, I’d love to get my hands on it but I can`t afford it,” say McKee.
McKee says the area has seen recent housing development. However, he says he would prefer residential over commercial development.
The auction takes place on Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Summerset Winery in Indianola.
