Phone Outage Costs Some Customers Business

DES MOINES, Iowa- Some Century Link businesses on the northeast side of Des Moines are still without internet and phone service.

Crews fixing a water main break on NE 14th wound up cutting the phone lines. NB Golf Cars hasn’t been able to make or receive calls since Friday.

“We’re just suffering right now because we can’t get to all the calls coming in,” says General Manager Dan Thomsen.

The phones finally started ringing again at the end of the fifth day without connection. The disruption in service couldn’t have come at a worse time.

“We also have the Knoxville National races , we’ve got the fair and we’re also the provider of golf carts this year to the Farm Progress Show in Boone. So we’ve got people calling to reserve golf cars for all of those events,” says Thomsen.

Century Link says crews are working around the clock to fix internet and phone service. One by one, businesses in the area of NE 14th and Broadway are getting reconnected.

The crews that were fixing the water main should be responsible for the lost business. The problem is that these crews are too lazy to spend the time to locate the lines before they dig. They just start digging and if something gets cut it gets cut.
