baezDENVER, Colorado — The Cubs called up Javier Baez from Iowa on Sunday and he made his Major League debut count.

Baez became the first player in Chicago Cubs history to hit an extra-innings home run in his Major League debut.

The 21-year-old homered in the 12th inning as the Cubs beat the Rockies in Colorado, 6-5.

Baez is the first player to hit a go-ahead home run in a MLB debut since Kent Hrbek of the Twins in 1981, 33 years ago.

Baez started the season as the Cubs’ top prospect. He struck out three times before that hit.
