DES MOINES, Iowa – A road improvement project on E. 30th Street and Dean Avenue near the Iowa State Fairgrounds was racing to be completed before the fair opens Thursday. The city confirmed Wednesday the repairs would be finished by the end of the day, even despite the rainy weather.
“We’re lucky the rain didn’t come earlier in the week, that would have affected our schedule,” said Pam Cooksey, the City Deputy Engineer. “Luckily we were down to just having to saw in the loops, so in between rains and, being able to blow out stuff, we made it!”
The intersection sits on the southwest side of the Iowa State Fairgrounds, an area that is sure to be filled with traffic come fair-time. The Iowa State Fair opens Thursday.
