URBANDALE, Iowa -- Rand Paul wraps up his three-day swing through Iowa Wednesday morning in Urbandale.
Paul’s official business this week is to help party leaders before midterm elections. However political experts say Paul is likely also building his base for a bid in the 2016 presidential election.
If he is running, Paul is casting his net beyond the traditional party base reaching out to young people, minorities, and the poor. This could work in his favor during the general election, but it also could alienate conservative members during the caucuses.
As for 2016, there are no official presidential candidates at this time. If Paul does run he will likely make his announcement towards the beginning of 2015.
