URBANDALE, Iowa — Urbandale firefighters say working smoke detectors helped a family stay safe Wednesday.
At about 6:30 a.m. crews were called out to 3508 64th Street. When they got there, they saw smoke coming from the home.
Firefighters immediately found a couch on fire in the basement and easily put it out.
Investigators are still looking into the cause, but they believe it started in the electrical system.
The smoke alarms woke the people living in the home and they were able to get out safely.
The family are staying with relatives until repairs can be made.
