DES MOINES, Iowa — Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that started after an officer was pinned by the suspect’s car.

Officers Dusty Rains and Shawn Herman stopped to investigate some suspicious activity at about 1:20 a.m. in the parking lot of the Cozy Rest Motel at 2316 SE 14th Street.

Police say Leroy Bradley, 34, from Minnesota is accused of bringing prostitutes from out-of-state to Des Moines in a stolen car. When they stopped to question him in the parking lot, he wouldn't get out of the car.

"Several times the suspect tries to place the car in gear and drive away. Officer Herman is able to put it back in park however at some point he was able to get in gear and hits the gas," Des Moines Police Sgt. Jason Halifax said.

When Bradley took off, he pinned Rains between her squad car and his. At that time, both she and Officer Herman fired at Bradley hitting him in the head.

Following a brief car chase, officers arrested him at the Kum & Go on SE 14th and Park.

"The driver pulls in, stops and gets out of the car and surrenders," said Halifax.

Officer Rains, a two-year veteran with the department is expected to make a full recovery. She doesn't have any broken bones or major injuries and was able to walk away from the incident.

Bradley is in stable condition. After he's released from the hospital, police say he will be charged with two counts of assault, eluding, and pandering.

The department is reviewing Monday morning's shooting, but at this point, they say it appears to be justified.

Kum & Go location is SE Park not southeast Polk. Is the time correct on this article? Other channels are reporting that it happened at 3am

I’m Not to sure about the time either. I had just woke up around 1:30am, had the Police Scanner on, Heard the commotion, “Send an Ambulance” .. It had to be around 1:30 am. They sure are careful anymore, what they say over the air-waves. Not much was said, channel was closed to other officers, heard ” send an ambulance to Kum and Go” .. didn’t get any details. Now I did .. Thank you WHO !!

Chrysler not Chrystler. And funny how they say Anytime someone drives a vehicle towards a person that`s a physical assault. That`s a physical assault whether you strike them or not. It`s actually assault with a dangerous weapon,” yet, in the case of Tony Stewart , they’re blaming the victim for putting themselves in that position / situation. Either it is the case for all, or none (with few exceptions).

Two totally different situatoins. This idiot deliberately drove the stolen car towards someone, Tony Stewart was driving around the race track and that other idiot basically ran out in front of him, he didnt deliberately drive the car at that individual.

Shot in the head? This certainly isn’ t going to make this POS any smarter.
To bad they didn’t kill the dirtbag.

‘”Both Officer Rains, a two-year veteran with the department is expected to make a full recovery.” That sentence doesn’t make sense.

It’s good that they are reporting the news, but this article has many grammar mistakes (sentence structures) that make it difficult to read and understand the news.
