DES MOINES, Iowa - At the Iowa State Fair on August 8, the Cattleman's Beef Quarters hosted Iowa's best burger for the day. This years winner is Brick City Grill in Ames.
Owner Jason Mikkelson explains how the best burger is made, "Well, we use fresh ingredients, our burger is never frozen. It's a proprietary blend, so you can't get it anywhere else. And we use a flat top griddle. So it kind of sears the meat and keeps the flavor in, so it makes for a juicier burger."
For the day at the fair, Mikkelson brought enough ingredients for 572 burgers. He says since his restaurant won the award, business has been up. "A lot of congratulations, a lot of people that I didn't even know, or remember, coming out of the woodwork and saying congratulations."
This is the 5th year of Iowa's Best Burger contest. It is sponsored by the Iowa Cattlemen's Association and the Iowa Beef Industry Council.
