PELLA, Iowa — A groundbreaking is set for Wednesday for the Red Rock Hydroelectric Project near Pella. Missouri River Energy Services is behind the project.

Once it’s built it will be the second largest hydropower facility in the state. It will be capable of producing electricity to supply about 18,000 homes.

The electricity will be used by four states, including Iowa.

The project is expected to be complete in 2018.
