JASPER COUNTY, Iowa — A short standoff ended peacefully in Jasper County Thursday morning.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to a home in the 14200 block of N 95th Avenue W around 10:08 a.m. on a domestic situation.

While on the way to the home, deputies learned one of the two male subjects involved in the incident was armed with a shotgun. When they arrived one of the males was able to leave the home, but 35-year-old Brett Janes remained inside.

A perimeter was set up and a tactical rescue unit was deployed to protect officers as they approached the home. Officers contacted Janes on his cell phone, and after about 15 minutes were able to convince him to surrender.

Janes is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon. He is being held in the Jasper County Jail.
