DES MOINES, Iowa -- Basketball coaches and local celebrities were golfing for a good cause Monday.

The annual Coaches vs. Cancer Charity Golf Classic was held at the Wakonda Club in Des Moines.

Among the players were coaches Ray Giacoletti, Fred Hoiberg, Fran McCaffery and Ben Jacobson.

Cancer has touched Coach McCaffery's family recently. His son, Pat, has thyroid cancer. McCaffery says he's seen first-hand what organizations like the American Cancer Society can do to help families dealing with a diagnosis

“When you look at Patrick you see how he was treated at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and the success that we had with that treatment and the experience we had. To know that when you first here the word that your 13-year-old son has cancer…that it’s in fact not a death sentence it’s treatable,” says Fran McCaffery, University of Iowa men’s basketball coach.

McCaffery lost both of his parents to cancer.
