Police: Fight May Have Led to Shooting Near Middle School

DES MOINES, Iowa – Police in Des Moines believe a shooting near middle school may have stemmed from a fight.

Officers were called to Callanan Middle School at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived on the scene they found Ariante Williams, 18, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Williams initially told police he didn’t know who shot him. Witnesses later said Williams was fighting with another teen after leaving a nearby party. The witnesses said the suspect had a gun that accidentally went off.

There are no suspects in the case and police said Williams is expected to survive.
