DES MOINES, Iowa -- A pair of brazen burglars broke into the same Des Moines storage facility twice in two days, taking one metro woman’s only way of paying for her mother’s funeral.
This year has been a hard one for Chonelle Davis of Carlisle. Back in February, she lost her 50-year-old mother to kidney disease. Davis doesn't have a lot of money. She had planned to sell her mother's adjustable bed, which was stored at a facility on Park Avenue, to help pay for the funeral costs.
But this week, two guys broke in and stole it. One is partially bald and has a very distinctive walk. They drove off in a white SUV with the mattress strapped to the top.
"I pray for them. I really do," Davis said, "I mean I really hope they needed it more than we did. I really hope that it was so they could feed their family. Because I just can't imagine someone just taking something that's not theirs."
If anyone saw the SUV driving near Park Avenue early Sunday or Monday mornings, please call Des Moines Police.
