DES MOINES, Iowa — Officials hope to have Merle Hay Mall’s makeover complete by the end of December. Originally officials hoped to be done by Black Friday, but crews are past the half way mark and it’s full speed ahead. Crews are working on the drywall, sealing the roof (which they raised by 15 feet), and have already put in the restaurant equipment and brew kettles.
Mall officials hope to hand over the keys to Flix Brewhouse by October. The theater will then install eight movie screens. This theater is the first of its kind in Iowa. Customers will be able to eat dinner, and drink fresh brewed beer while watching the latest films.
Mall traffic has remained steady and if anything more people are coming to see what’s going on. The project costs about $12 million.
