WEST UNION, Iowa — More information has been released about an officer-involved shooting at an Iowa hospital.
Authorities say Fayette County deputy Jeremy Stiefel was picking up Steven Harreld at a West Union hospital Saturday to take him back to jail. The deputy released Harreld’s leg cuffs to allow him to change his clothes.
That’s when Harreld allegedly attacked the deputy, took his gun, and demanded that he release him. While searching for the keys, the deputy got his taser and used it on Harreld.
The deputy has recovered as he was wearing a bullet proof vest.
