30 Year Prison Sentence in Granger Woman’s Arson Case

ADEL, Iowa — A Granger woman has been sentenced to up to 30 years in prison for setting a fire police say was intended to kill a man.

Fifty-one-year-old Marcia Shaffer was sentenced Friday in Dallas County court for the June 2013 fire. Officials say she broke into a home and stole items before setting a fire.

Shaffer was arrested in July of 2013 after investigators found some of the property taken from the home in her possession.

Shaffer was found guilty of second degree arson, second degree burglary, and two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

She was originally charged with attempted murder, first degree arson, and first degree burglary.
