Downtown Toledo Building Collapses

TAMA COUNTY, Iowa — Residents of a Toledo building had a lucky escape when a portion of it collapsed Monday night.

Authorities were called shortly before 11 p.m. to 119 West High Street downtown and found a wall and a part of the roof had collapsed into an alleyway.

The building had a business on the lower level and an apartment on the second floor.

Everyone was able to get out without injury.

A neighboring apartment building was also evacuated as a precaution.

The cause of the collapse is under investigation.

Let’s see, years of minimum maintenance by the property owner in a small town where the inspector most likely is friendly with certain property owners and contractors over others, pretty much like all small Iowa towns.
