DES MOINES, Iowa -- Political endorsement season is in full swing.

It's usually no surprise who most organizations support, but that's not the case with the Iowa Corn Growers PAC. It is making selections from both sides of the aisle.

So far it's endorsed 40 Republicans and 35 Democrats.

For example, it picked Democrat Bruce Braley over Republican Joni Ernst in the U.S. Senate race.

On the other hand, the group selected Gov. Terry Branstad over Democrat Jack Hatch.

The PAC says it makes endorsements according to the issues, not the party.

“Those issues, those priorities come to use from the producer level. They tell us what’s important, whether it’s ethanol, and the renewable fuel standard...farm bill and crop insurance, trade and transportation issues. That’s how we score our candidates, based on how well they vote on those particular priorities and issues,” says chairman Mark Recker.

You can learn more about the endorsements on The Insiders with Dave Price, Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. on Channel 13.
