HAZLETON, Iowa — An Iowa man is still recovering three days after he was struck by lightning.
A bolt of lightning hit just a few feet from where Derrick Murphy and his dad, Danny were standing.
The explosion knocked both men off their feet. While Derrick was shaken up, Danny was seriously hurt. He is still in a lot of pain at the hospital.
Derrick says he didn’t realize how close the lightning was until a few seconds before they were hit.
“I stopped and it looked like a grenade had exploded 20 feet in front of me,” Derrick told KWWL. “It is lucky probably someone is on our side to help us survive and I bet there’s a little luck in that.”
Danny says he doesn’t remember getting hit, just waking up 15 minutes later.
