ANKENY, Iowa — A 24-hour campout was worth the wait for one hundred Chick-Fil-A fans.
With some fanfare, the newest Chick-Fil-A opened at 6 a.m. Thursday morning in Ankeny.
The first 100 people in the door received free meals from the restaurant for a year.
People camped out all night even waiting it out in the rain.
After an early morning wake-up call at 5:15 a.m. campers were led on a conga line around the restaurant.
Then workers rang cow bells and banged on pots and pans when the customers filed into the restaurant.
The restaurant also held a children’s book collection Wednesday. The 250 books donated will be given to Blank Children’s Hospital.
