DES MOINES, Iowa — The metro’s homeless population will get some help this weekend.

Saturday, Polk County Veterans Affairs will take part in a Homeless Stand-Down.

The event is intended for anyone who is homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

Participants will receive tents, sleeping bags, and other essentials. Organizers hope it will bring attention to the problem in the metro.

It begins at 5:00 p.m. Friday at the state capitol and runs through the weekend.
