DES MOINES, Iowa -- Since many high school students don't remember 9-11, local teachers made the historic events the focus of Thursday's lessons.
At East High School in Des Moines, social studies teachers skipped a few chapters for a one day lesson about the terrorist attacks.
One class held a group discussion, where many students said they couldn't recall where they were when it all happened.
Social studies teacher Lynn Hoff says each year it's getting more difficult to teach students about the significance of that day.
"As we go along, I’m sure these students know what I’m talking about but in five or six years, it will be something in history that doesn’t have a big part in their lives,” said Hoff.
Hoff's oldest students were just five years old when the 9-11 attacks happened.
