WARREN COUNTY, Iowa – The Warren County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of a man killed in a crash following a high speed chase on Monday morning.

The police chase began after the Warren County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen motor vehicle. At about 9 a.m. Monday, a sheriff’s deputy spotted the suspect vehicle traveling along County Line Road. The deputy attempted to catch up with the stolen vehicle but was not successful.

The stolen Mercedes Benz was involved in a single-vehicle crash a short time later. The driver, Yanik Audain, 29, of Des Moines, lost control of the vehicle which went into a ditch, hit a culvert and went airborne for about 40 feet.

“He was pinned from the knees down. Deputies got there and the car was on fire so they got him out of the vehicle, got the fire out, but it was too late,” said Warren County Sheriff Brian Vos.

Audain died at the scene.

It’s not the first time this guy ran from law enforcement. He did the same thing back in February of 2006 in eastern Iowa. Fortunately, this will be his last time.
