The only numbers that count are the final votes this Tuesday. I hope Ernst comes out ahead of Braley. It seems like the Braley supporters have brought in all the big name Democrats and have tried every dirty bad mouth trick, lie, and exaggeration they can come up with to belittle Ernst. But then what do people expect from a trial lawyer? And that’s what Braley is! Remember when he tried to disparage Senator Grassley for “just being a farmer”??? And remember how his supporters have referred to Ernst as a pig farmer and made fun of her and have said she is against women? Give me a break Braley! Yes, she is a farmer’s wife who has worked alongside of her husband on the farm. She is a mother. She has a bachelors and a masters degree and was an exchange student in the Soviet Union. She was a country administrator and is an Iowa Senator. And she is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Iowa Army National Guard who has led both men and women in combat for over 14 months in the Persian Gulf—and has over 21 years of military service! Braley–or is it Bailey?–you could only wish you were so qualified to be a United States Senator from Iowa.

She is an officer because she had a college degree when she joined the guard- not because she can lead… Nobody I served with would ever be so cavalier about “unloading” on anything or anyone so I doubt she got closer to any front line than Kuwait. She can’t use castration skills, or shooting skills, or ability to ride a bike, or ability identify that hogs stink to the advantage of Iowa. Ernst would be an equal embarrassment to Iowa that Palin has been to Alaska because she doesn’t think beyond her own fencline… and her ‘Iowa values” are the same as the inmates in Fort Madison.
Think deductively before voting. Ernst uses catchy wording to avoid actual messages. Her vow before the NRA to use her “pretty little 9mm” against persons or a government fails to define what official she’d shoot and under what circumstances. Even Grassley, who claims to be a farmer(but has spent the majority of his working life in DC) and will admit he never went to law school, will counsel that a candidate who only threatens violence (castration, shooting, cutting) is a bad choice. Working FOR Iowa is not the same thing as working AGAINST the other party!

Of course she is an officer because of her education. But she has come up through the ranks because of her time, experience and abilities! She is the commanding officer of the largest battalion in the

“…never went to law school” is a badge of honor considering what a fricking mess the lawyers in politics have gotten us into. The only times lawyers identify with the person on the street is during a campaign. Lawyers have no common sense, they have little sense at all. For those in politics, staying in office and getting re-elected is what it’s all about. I’ve said before, many can’t manage their own affairs, let alone the affairs of the country!

Funny, I have quite the collection of hissing serpents materials from every crackpot right wing religious group in the country and quite a few from the republicans, who of course just had to go snooping into our personal affairs to see if we had used any of the multiple early voter registration cards they sent us despite repeated demands they remove us from their mailing lists.

The won;t even follow Iowa laws regarding tresspassing.

Wow John A: that was a well thought out comment. Precise and to the point to say the least. And if I was on drugs or living in my moms basement without a job, trying to figure out the next generations of bongs and pot pipes I’d probably agree with you. Now here is a big question for you, I’ll write it slow because you probably don’t read too fast……. After Obama and friends….. what does our country stand for now? Do we have the respect from anyone in the world out there anymore?

  • Clyde

One more thing, you want to know who she wants to shoot? Ask yourself how ridiculous that argument is. Go ahead I’ll wait. But your right about one thing, from what I have seen in the Senate, there isn’t anyone to castrate there, somebody already did that.

If Ernst holds on to win (which I hope she does), it would have come down to four things: 1) Braley was a terrible candidate as he was arrogant/cocky 2) He insulted Iowa’s most admired political person 3) He embellished his record 4) And the big one – He took his opponent lightly – Go back to my point #1. The guy is a grade AAA slime ball and most Iowans figured it out.

Polls are all over the place. If the poll doesn’t sound sound, it isn’t sound. I still predict an Ernst loss of more than 7 full points. And the same with republicans across the nation. Every news pundit are basing their theory of democratic loss simply on the trend of past midterms. Not on the polls. Which are all over the place, or tied. Not a wise theory for pundits to embrace, considering… The republicans are just as troubled with their own party as the pundits feel democrats are with theirs. Plenty of republicans now have health insurance despite their preexisting conditions. Especially those with employer based health insurance denied insurance before Obamacare reforms. Insured republicans do not want to return back to insurance companies kicking preexisting folks off policy. Republicans are not dumb. They know ACA has been a great help for them and their families to finally have insurance. This election is not only going to be fun, but shockingly fun. Bottom line, the voters still decide. Not the polls. We shall see.

A Bailey win….doubtful. Once a candidate reaches more than 50% in a poll three days out, the odds of that person winning is around 82%. Your right, anything can happen, but it appears that Beetle Bailey is in deep shinola.

So what’s your point John A? Your comment shows how little you know about the military or of Joni Ernst. Of course, she is a commissioned officer because of her education and she rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel because of her time in service, experience and abilities. She commands the largest battalion in the Iowa National Guard. And yes, she was in combat in the Gulf War serving in both Kuwait and in Iraq and no, she wasn’t sitting behind a desk but was on the front lines. Where was Bailey?

    • Troy Hendrickson

It took 6 months of calling her campaign to get anyone at all to remember who Michael Deal was. And she still hasn;t lifted a finger to get the man justice. And she has her own missed votes and meetings issue, especially when she allowed her people to falsely claim most of it was due to her service when they weren’t, many were because she was to busy campaigning for out of state money just like Braley.

  • mattinwestdesmoines

What an embarrassment these candidates are. Especially Ernst. The fact that she’s even in a remotely close race with her extreme views tells you all you need to know about the quality of candidates we have to choose from. Pathetic.

      • Troy Hendrickson

well let’s, she claims to be a christian, yet plays games with the lives of seriously ill children (while claiming to be “pro life”) and wants to put the dying in prison over a plant her God made. She supported at least $200,000 a year in farm welfare regardless of income, a program that obviously benefits the wealthy corporate farms far more than any family farm, while slamming social welfare of course, and she has said nothing about the state’s subsidisation of alcohol, while claiming to be concerned about drug abuse as her motivating for putting dying people in prison and playing sick twisted games with the lives of seriously ill children.

You want to vote for someone like just because you think you’ll get a bigger paycheck, go for it.

God doesn’t care about my bank account or money, but he does care about the dying and children and he doesn’t like people falsely claiming the blood of His son;s sacrifice like Joni and her kind do.

  • Troy Hendrickson

This election is just plain whack. In Boone County, a conservative “family values” republican milking the system for a double dip endorsed a liberal democrat for county attorney.

hey john a …. use fact checker… brailey voted to raise taxes over a billion dollars.. he cut millions from social security for seniors… he voted to close social security offices making seniors drive even farther to receive services… he voted to cut social security programs for seniors and he voted for millions to be cut from medicare to give to obamacare…. slapping vets in the face by not attending the meetings is a key issue for me

  • tom sullivan

wow .. brailey’s lies just keep piling up… he did not vote to strike isis like he claimed and he also said that he did not know ex mayor mike Bloomberg.. well turns out he does know him… real well… I guess when your mentor (Obama) lies to the American people every day, …he must think he can do it too
