Someone staying in a guest house alerted authorities of the fire in Urbandale (WHO-HD)

URBANDALE, Iowa — Firefighters in Urbandale battled a fire and cold late Tuesday night.

The fire happened at about 11:30 p.m. at a home, assessed at over $550,000, in the 1400 block of Brookview.

Someone living in the guest home called 911 saying smoke was coming from the roof.

Firefighters found smoke and fire in the attic space.

No one was at home at the time.

The home is not a total loss, but there is significant damage to the front of home, as well as smoke and water damage throughout it.

More than 40 firefighters helped knock down the fire.

Crews not only had to worry about the cold, they had to keep their footing.

“It’s also difficult if we were trying to ventilate the roof, because of the heavy snow we’ve had, it creates some challenges even just navigating on the water that freezes very rapidly for the firefighters,” Urbandale fire marshal Jon Rech said.

No one was hurt in the fire.

The cause is still under investigation.

I’m sure this was closer to a 3 million home, the land alone was probably worth 1/2m. I live in this neighborhood. So sad. Lovely home.

So sad that with all their money they have no place to sleep. Perhaps those sleeping in boxes or old cars will make room for them.,

Why so angry that these people have achieved the “American Dream”? Isn’t this what we all dream of in life?
