DES MOINES, Iowa - Police in Des Moines are conducting a homicide investigation after a woman's body was found in an alley Sunday morning.

Police were called to the 1100 block of 14th Place, just north of Enos Avenue, after receiving a call about a dead body shortly after 8:40 a.m. Sunday.

"Someone was leaving from their residence and as they backed their vehicle into the alley, they could see a body down on the ground," said Des Moines Police Sgt. Jason Halifax.

When police arrived on the scene, officers confirmed the death of the adult woman who appears in to be in her 20's or 30's. They blocked off the area around the alley so the crime scene unit could collect evidence.

"I can't confirm that it's definitely a homicide, but there's enough things about the body, the position of the body, the location of the body to make us suspicious enough that we will treat it as a homicide investigation," said Halifax.

The name of the woman is not being released at this time.
