DES MOINES, Iowa- Pocahontas won its first round game at the Iowa Girls Basketball Tournament over Clear Lake 63-59. Ten years ago Pocahontas was last in the tourney. On the bench that year was a kindergartener named Elle Ruffridge. “I’ve been dreaming about this for ten years,” said Ruffridge.
Her team was down 8 with 5 minutes to play, sophomore Ruffridge used her laser-like 3 pointer and ball handling to wrangle back into the lead. Ruffridge had 18 points. “I didn’t come out with my best game,” said Ruffridge. “I had to step up for my team.”
Faith Meyer had 22 points as the team shot over 77% in the second half. Pocahontas Area will play Crestwood on Thursday.
