DES MOINES, Iowa – The man charged in a fatal weekend assault is just the latest charge in his long history of crimes.

The weekend assault occurred at Gerri's Place on East 30th Street early Sunday morning. The Des Moines Police Department was initially called to the bar on a report of an unconscious man outside. The man, later identified as Andrew Purcell, passed away from injuries he sustained during the assault.

Police received photos of the suspect in this case and his wife on Tuesday, and released the pictures in order to help learn their identities.

The suspect, Daniel Patton, was charged with involuntary manslaughter on Wednesday after turning himself in to Des Moines Police Detectives. Patton's wife Adrena was also charged in connection to Purcell's death. She is facing one count of accessory after the fact.

This is the third felony arrest of Patton so far this year, according to online court records.

In January, he was arrested and charged with domestic abuse, harassment and false imprisonment.

In early March, Patton was arrested on felony drug charges.

Both of those cases are still waiting to go to trial.

Patton also pleaded guilty in 2011 to assault and disorderly conduct charges in two separate cases. He also has a number of drug related arrests.
