WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- A Minnesota man was shot outside the Val Air Ballroom early Monday morning as people were leaving a concert.

Police were already at the venue directing traffic, when they heard a gunshot before 2 a.m.

“The officers on scene heard a gunshot and responded to the direction of the gunshot and ended up finding a male with a gunshot wound,” says Sgt. Brent Kock.

Officers found 24-year-old Daroyce Mills, of Minnesota, suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach. He is listed in critical condition at a Des Moines hospital.

Investigators found only one shell casing near the victim.
