SCRANTON, Iowa – An 8-year-old boy was killed Wednesday afternoon in an ATV accident in Greene County.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office says Grant Robbins was driving a two-seated Polaris Ranger when he turned onto the driveway of his family’s home at 904 Emerald Avenue and the vehicle overturned. Officials say Robbins was crushed by the roll bar on the ATV.

He was not belted in to the ATV or wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Officials also say excessive speed likely caused the vehicle to roll.

Robbins was pronounced dead at the scene.

Funeral services for Robbins are pending at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson.
