Body Found in Des Moines River Identified

DES MOINES, Iowa — Authorities have released the name of the person who’s body was found in the Des Moines River Friday.

The victim has been identified by the State Medical Examiner’s Office as Bobby Lee Long, 32, of Des Moines.  Polk County detectives are investigating the case to determine if the body of Long was the person observed yelling for help in the Des Moines River near the 4300 block of NW Morningstar Drive on Monday, June 8th.

Just before 5 p.m. Friday, Polk County Conservation received a report of a body floating in the Des Moines River near Yellow Banks Park.  Polk County deputies, Polk County Conservation, Pleasant Hill Fire Department and the Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office were called to the scene.

Officials have not released any other details in the case.
