Threat Forces Two-Hour Lockdown at Eastern Iowa Airport

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A man claiming to have an explosive at the Eastern Iowa Airport forced a two-hour lockdown early Wednesday morning.

According to KWWL, Cedar Rapids police were contacted by OnStar around 3:00 a.m. about a man who claimed to have an explosive at the airport. The suspect was spotted leaving the airport and was taken into custody near Highway 20 and Edgewood Road.

Nothing was found in a search of the vehicle.

The lockdown was lifted around 5:00 a.m. after bomb technicians conducted a search of the terminal and parking lot. They didn’t find any explosives.

The suspect, who has not been named, was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

A spokesperson for the airport says operations are back to normal and no one missed their flight because of the lockdown.
