DES MOINES, Iowa -- A Des Moines man says when city crews cleaned out a culvert on his property, they also cleaned him out of about a thousand dollars worth of firewood.
"They're supposed to clean that, these openings, the top and that grate there," Paul Beebe said, pointing to the culvert on his property.
But he said city crews not only removed debris from the culvert, they also took about a $1,000 worth of cut and seasoned firewood that was stacked about 30 feet away.
A photo he gave us shows the wood was cut, and a few pieces of split firewood remain on the property. "It would have been used all winter to heat the house." Beebe said. "You get anything new now it's not gonna be dry by winter. That stuff had been sitting here a year, year and a half."
The City of Des Moines' Department of Public Works Director did not want to be interviewed on camera because he said he expects Beebe to sue the city.
Beebe said that’s exactly what he plans to do.
