NEWTON, Iowa — A Newton police officer is on paid leave after being accused of abusing his fiance.
Dustin Hamell is charged with one count of domestic abuse.
According to the Newton Daily News, Hamell slammed his fiance’s arm in a door while she was trying to get into her children’s room. He is also accused of pushing her.
Hamell has been with the Newton Police Department for three years. He’s on leave pending a full investigation.
He will be in court for a preliminary hearing on August 19th.
