DES MOINES, Iowa - Pat Knueven is celebrating three big milestones Wednesday: His 70th birthday, his 50th year as a blood donor, and his 250th blood donation.
“I like helping people,” he said. “I hope my journey as a blood donor would spark other people’s interest to donate blood.”
Knueven made his 250th donation Wednesday morning at Lifeserve Blood Clinic in Des Moines. He began donating blood through his employer in 1965.
“Pat is the perfect example of the lifelong blood donor we strive to attract,” said Claire DeRoin, Community Relations Coordinator for LifeServe Blood Center. “We wouldn’t be able to provide local hospital patients blood in their critical time of need if it wasn’t for the generosity of people like Pat.”
It may not be the first thing you'd think of doing on your birthday. But Knueven says it was a no-brainer.
“I want to give someone else another birthday,” he said. "I may not meet anyone I've ever helped with my blood, but that's okay."
