DES MOINES, Iowa - Police are investigating a shooting Friday evening on the east side of Des Moines that left one man dead.

Officers say at 9:28 p.m. Friday, a call was made about a shooting on the 1200 block of Sampson Street. Upon arrival, officers say they found the victim, 22-year-old Trenton Washington of Des Moines, near a residence suffering from a gunshot wound. Sergeant Paul Parizek with DMPD says though Washington was found in the yard of the residence, he was actually shot in the street, and fled several feet before collapsing.

Washington was taken to Mercy Hospital for treatment, where he later died.

Detectives are investigating the murder, interviewing witnesses in the area and following leads. The Des Moines Police Crime Scene Investigation Unit is continuing to process the scene of the shooting for physical evidence, as well. At this time, no arrests have been made.

This is the seventh homicide in Des Moines this year.
