DEWITT, Iowa — A man wanted in connection to a shooting outside the DeWitt police station has been arrested in Colorado.

Twenty-six-year-old Alejandro Lira was arrested Friday in Denver. He’s charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, and robbery.

Police say Lira got out a handgun while riding in Michael Dewispelaere’s vehicle and shot him while driving near the police station on August 11. Officials say the victim crashed into a marked police car after being shot.

Lira has been on the run since.

Officials say the extradition process is underway.
