MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — A Marshalltown man is keeping the memory of his wife alive by throwing a party.

Laverne “Ray” Pille isn’t throwing just any party — he’s throwing a “Shirley Party.”

It’s in honor of Pille’s wife, Shirley Ann, who died in 2014 at the age of 77.

Pille says his wife used to attend theme parties where only women who shared her name were invited. So he’s doing the same, at the city’s Senior Citizens Center Thursday at 1:00 p.m.

He hopes to have more than 100 Shirleys in attendance.
