URBANDALE, Iowa -- Two people are behind bars after a high-speed chase in Urbandale Thursday.
Police say an officer tried to pull over an SUV at 54th Street and Douglas Avenue around 11:45 a.m. on a seatbelt violation.
The driver, 23-year-old Conor Forrest, took off and police pursued the SUV. Police say the chase reached up 100 miles per hour at times.
Forrest lost control at Meredith Drive and 83rd Street and smashed through a townhome garage.
Forrest and his passenger, 24-year-old Kody Murray, ran from the scene, but police located them and took them into custody. Police say Murray was transported to a medical facility for minor injuries, but he will be taken to the Polk County Jail after he is released.
Forrest is charged with eluding and he and Murray both will face charges of interference with official acts. Additional charges may come at a later time.
One person was in the townhome at the time of the crash but was not injured.
