DES MOINES, Iowa -- Des Moines police and firefighters joined the Des Moines Buccaneer hockey players at Brenton Skating Plaza on Wednesday.

The charity event, hosted by the Guns N Hoses Hockey non-profit organization, is raising money for Blank's Children Hospital's Child Life Program, which helps children facing a life-threatening illness.

The event also gave police a chance to meet community members in a more relaxed situation.

"The contacts that people have with police aren't always as positive, so this gives us a chance from the police side of things to let people know that we're human and that we have a kind side to us," said Travis Hamilton, President of Guns N Hoses Hockey.
