GRIMES, Iowa — A power outage on Highway 141, between Grimes and Urbandale, caused a major traffic backup Wednesday afternoon.

The power went out about 3:13 p.m. and was restored just after 4:30 p.m.

Urbandale Police Sgt. Gary Lang said the outage affected stop lights in the area, causing the congestion.

About 300 MidAmerican Energy customers were without power for more than an hour. Officials say the outage was caused by an equipment issue.
