DES MOINES, Iowa -- Former Iowa Governor Samuel Merrill's Mausoleum is getting a much-needed facelift.

On Monday, Governor Branstad announced the state will fund the final $6,500 to restore the Mausoleum in Woodland cemetery.

The money comes from the Iowa History Fund, which is funded in part by Governor Branstad's book.

Governor Branstad wanted to think of a way to preserve the history of Iowa so he created the Iowa History Fund.

"This is exactly the type of history project we want to help and promote through the Iowa History Fund," Governor Branstad said. "In fact, the Governor Merrill Project, my wife and I have already contributed thousands of dollars as well as many other Iowa citizens. This $6,500 is designed to complete the private fundraising for this project."
