DES MOINES, Iowa -- Des Moines police are trying to track down the person who led them on a dangerous high speed chase overnight.

It all started around 1:00 a.m. Tuesday when the driver sped off from a traffic stop at NE 14th Street. The driver got on to I-235, leading police on a chase that reached more than 90 miles per hour. The suspect exited the interstate at Keo and crashed into another vehicle on the 19th Street off ramp near MLK Jr. Parkway.

The driver fled on foot but a passenger in the car was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Police say a K-9 was not working Tuesday morning, which hindered their efforts to track the suspect.

Two people in the vehicle that was hit by the suspect’s car were checked out by paramedics but were not seriously injured.

Police say the chase suspect was a black male in his 40s.
