URBANDALE, Iowa -- Wednesday's storms caused an unusual problem in the metro.

Firefighters believe lightning struck an underground gas line, igniting a ball of flames on Cardinal Lane, just off Northwest 128th Street.

It was pouring rain as firefighters waited to put out the blaze. Crews waited for MidAmerican Energy to shut off the gas line before extinguishing theĀ fire.

The fire did not spread and no injuries were reported.
