INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Fire crews were called to put out a blaze at a Warren County pet cemetery early Wednesday morning.

The fire at the Loving Rest Pet Funeral Home in rural Indianola was reported around 5 a.m. after owner Jimmy Johnson saw the flames. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire but remain on scene as rubble from a structure on the property still smolders.

Johnson says the fire destroyed a two story chapel that was under construction. There was no electrical in the building and Jones speculates the fire may have started from a lightning strike.

Fire crews from North Warren, Carlisle, and Norwalk all helped put the fire out.

This isn’t the first destructive fire at the pet cemetery. Just two years ago, the funeral home was completely destroyed by flames. Officials determined it started in the crematorium.
