NEVADA, Iowa -- The man convicted of killing a young woman inside the Coral Ridge Mall is asking for a new trial and the request will be heard Monday.

Last month, a jury convicted 23-year-old Alexander Kozak of first-degree murder in the June 2015 death of 20-year-old Andrea Farrington.

Now, Kozak's lawyer has filed a motion to start from scratch.

The lawyer claims prosecutors didn't follow court rules during the original trial.

The motion will be considered at Kozak's sentencing, which is set for Monday.
