ALTOONA, Iowa -- The long wait for Adventureland’s newest roller coaster came to an end this weekend.

“The Monster” opened up Saturday.

"There’s nothing like it," said Mike Whalen, of Guttenberg. "I've been on roller coasters across the whole country but this one has just so, so many things you don't expect. You can't expect anything that’s going to happen."

Molly Vincent, spokesperson at Adventureland, said about 10,000 people rode coaster Saturday and Sunday.

The ride features 2,500 feet of track that twists and turns and reaches speeds of 65 miles-per-hour. The ride was also added to CNN's "Best New Roller Coasters of 2016" list.

Vincent said people came sprinting to the gates to experience the ride for themselves Saturday morning.

"The Monster" replaced the old Log Ride, which was a fixture in the park for 40 years.
