Strong thunderstorms barreled across areas north of the metro Tuesday, producing damaging winds and heavy rain.
Wind gusts reached 72.5 mph in Estherville. Across Emmet County, hail nearly an inch in diameter fell.

Heavy rain prompted a flash flood watch for a majority of northern Iowa counties until 1 a.m.
Forecast for Central Iowa
Wind damage is possible, as is large hail. A few tornadoes are also possible, but less so.
The best timing of the storms will be from mid-afternoon, and especially into the drive time home hours between 4 and 7 p.m. A few storms may continue to rumble through the state late tonight through 10 p.m.
