DES MOINES, Iowa — Metro leaders got to see more plans Thursday for the new Iowa Events Center hotel that’s being built downtown.

Designers met with the Iowa Events Center board Thursday morning to talk about the interior design for the new hotel. The 330-room Hilton hotel will be attached to the Iowa Events Center.

Officials believe the hotel will help attract bigger conventions to Des Moines that may have skipped the city in the past because the events center didn’t have an attached hotel.

“We want to make sure that people feel comfortable, they want to participate, go to the bar, have a cocktail or sit somewhere to wait for a friend to show up. That’s what we are really looking for, that experience,” said Davis Sanders, Principal at RDG Planning & Design.

Construction on the project is scheduled to be finished in spring of 2018.
